Petrol Price in Nepal Today
The current petrol price in Nepal is NRs 217 per litre in Kathmandu, Pokhara, and Dipayal (Zone C). In Surkhet and Dang (Zone B), petrol costs NRs 216 per litre, while in Terai border depot areas like Biratnagar, Birgunj, and Nepalgunj (Zone A), the rate is NRs 214.50 per litre.
Petrol in Nepal is officially called Motor Spirit (MS) and is the most commonly used fuel for motorcycles, cars, and light vehicles across the country. Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) — the sole government-authorized importer — revises petrol prices roughly every 15 days based on import costs from Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) and the rupee-dollar exchange rate.
Petrol prices in Nepal are higher in hilly and mountainous regions compared to Terai because of increased transportation costs. Zone C (Kathmandu) typically has the highest petrol price, while Zone A (Terai depots) has the lowest. Prices apply within a 15 km radius of the nearest NOC depot.
Diesel Price in Nepal Today
The current diesel price in Nepal is NRs 225 per litre in Kathmandu, Pokhara, and Dipayal (Zone C). Zone B areas (Surkhet, Dang) have diesel at NRs 224 per litre, and Zone A Terai depot towns offer the lowest rate at NRs 222.50 per litre.
Diesel in Nepal is officially classified as High Speed Diesel (HSD) and is widely used in trucks, buses, tractors, generators, and most commercial and agricultural vehicles. It is the backbone fuel of Nepal’s transportation and logistics sector. Interestingly, diesel in Nepal is currently priced higher than petrol — a reversal from historical norms — due to changes in government tax policy and import cost structures.
For businesses that rely on diesel-powered fleets or generators, even small changes in NOC’s diesel rate have a significant impact on operating costs. Checking the latest diesel price before long trips or bulk fuel purchases is recommended. NOC announces all price revisions on its official website noc.org.np.
LPG Gas Price in Nepal Today
The current LPG gas cylinder price in Nepal is NRs 2,160 per cylinder — and this rate is uniform across all regions of Nepal, meaning it is the same in Kathmandu, Pokhara, Surkhet, Biratnagar, and every other district. There is no zone-based difference for LPG.
LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas) is the primary cooking fuel for millions of Nepali households. A standard domestic cylinder in Nepal weighs 14.2 kg. NOC subsidizes LPG to keep it affordable for households, cross-funding the subsidy through higher margins on petrol and diesel. This is why LPG prices change less frequently than petrol or diesel — revisions happen only when accumulated losses become unsustainable for the corporation.
The LPG cylinder price in Nepal has seen significant increases since 2022 due to rising global LPG prices and the weakening Nepali rupee against the US dollar. Consumers are advised to buy cylinders from authorized NOC dealers and verify the seal before accepting delivery.
📍 How Zones Work
Zone A (Terai) — Border depot towns: Charali, Biratnagar, Birgunj, Amlekhgunj, Bhalbari, Nepalgunj, Dhangadhi, Mahendranagar. Lowest prices due to proximity to India.
Zone B (Mid-Hills) — Surkhet and Dang. Mid-range pricing.
Zone C (Mountains/Capital) — Kathmandu Valley, Pokhara, Dipayal. Highest prices due to transportation distance.
Prices apply within 15 km of NOC depots.
